My specialist interests are in endoscopy, gastroenterology and liver medicine; particularly inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and liver and hepato-biliary disease. I have rapid access to the most skilled and up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy facilities. My clinical team includes nationally recognised experts in London and Cardiff and our aim is to provide the highest care possible to local patients. Within the NHS, I direct a service for the management of IBS consisting of nurse specialist, hypnotherapist, homeopath and dietician.
Our aim is to delivery a quality, local service of the highest standards possible and utilising the most up to date techniques to facilitate diagnosis of a condition.
My research at St Thomas’ Hospital was performed with Professor Paul Ciclitira and in collaboration with Professor Nicholas Wright (ICRF) and Drs Knut Lundin and Ludvig Sollid (Institute of Transplantation Immunology, Oslo) “The role of cytokines in the immunopahogenesis of celiac disease”. Current research activities include; painless alternatives to biopsy diagnosis of liver disease, alternative therapies for IBS, vaccines development to prevent recurrent C Difficile and phototherapy and genetic diagnosis of bile cancer.
I am a keen road cyclist and each year take part in Sportive events around Europe. My young children fill many hours with joy and distraction. Otherwise conversion of a period property and gardens in Bristol provide equal amounts of frustration and pleasure!
