Spire Bristol Hospital sponsors prostate cancer charity - Run for the Future

Spire Bristol Hospital, The Glen is sponsoring a running event to raise money for research into prostate cancer called ‘Run for the Future’.  Five thousand pounds has been given by the hospital to support the Bristol charity.

Run for the Future will take place on the Bristol Downs in September to raise awareness of the disease while also raising funds for the Bristol Urological Institute’s (BUI) Prostate Cancer Appeal.

The hospital is the main sponsor of the event for the third time, after supporting the very first Run for the Future in 2006. It is the fourth time the event, which is open to men, women and children, will take place in the city.

Run for the Future has already raised £130,000, which is being used to fund a special joint research project between the BUI at Southmead Hospital and the University of the West of England into early diagnosis and treatment of the disease. More than 35,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and more than 10,000 die. It is hoped the Run for the Future-funded research will lead to the introduction of a national screening programme which could reduce the number of deaths by more than half.

The run is being held on Sunday 20th September. For further details or to register to take part call 0117 959 6328.
