Gallbladder removal: what to expect at Spire Alexandra Hospital

Our gallbladder removal services are either inpatient or outpatient procedures, and your consultant will be able to explain which is best for you and why. Outpatient procedures involve keyhole surgery, through small incisions, and you could leave hospital the same day. While inpatient procedures require open surgery and larger incisions, and a stay of a few days may be needed.

You’ll receive a full consolation before your procedure, and when the day comes, you’ll be shown to your own private room. You’ll then be given anaesthetic (usually general) and the operation should take around two hours.
