Mr Ahfat qualified from Leeds University and trained in ophthalmology in Leeds, Southampton, Liverpool and Moorfields, London. During this time, he acquired extensive experience in all aspects of ophthalmology.
He has been a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust since 2000. In addition to providing a general ophthalmology service, he also has special interests in small incision cataract surgery, retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy and laser treatment.
