Mr Hammer has trained both as a general surgeon and as an orthopaedic surgeon. In doing so, he has gained a wide experience of traumatic and non traumatic conditions in both these fields of surgery.

He is presently concerned with all aspects of orthopaedic surgery. His main interests centre round all forms of musculo-skeletal injury and in particular degenerative conditions of the spine and in the lower limbs.

His research interests centre round the hip joint and the spine and he has several scientific publications in these areas.

He has been involved with student teaching for many years and has educational publications relating to various orthopaedic topics.

In addition to clinical consultations Mr Hammer is available for medico-legal opinions.

Mr Hammer maintains an interest in golf and general fitness exercises.
