Professor Eisenstein completed his primary medical training in Johannesburg, South Africa graduating in 1968. He won a Trueta Travelling Fellowship to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital, Oxford and then undertook a fellowship in spinal surgery in Oswestry. He was honoured with the Sir Robert Jones Gold Medal and Prize in 1976. This was followed by a doctorate on “The Human Lumbar Vertebral Canal” in 1980. He is also past president of the Society for Back Pain Research and past president of the British Cervical Spine Society. He is a member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. Previously, Director, Centre for Spinal Studies, and Direct of Research, the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt, Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. Practice: Assessment of new patients is based on a lengthy consultation which requires a full history, clinical examination and the management of appropriate spinal images, surgical operations are regarded as a last resort and seldom the first line of treatment.
Wife is an accredited counsellor (CBT) in private practice. One son is a doctor. His hobbies include private flying, vintage, stained glass.
