Spire Yale Hospital and Abergele Consulting Rooms have opened a new One Stop Post Menopausal and Abnormal Bleeding clinic aimed at women, both before and after the menopause, who experience abnormal bleeding. This service is run by our local Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who have experience in out-patient and inpatient investigations and treating bleeding problems.
Newer treatments can be carried out without the need for general anaesthetic

The clinics take place each week and appointments can be made at Wrexham or the
Abergele Consulting Rooms. Whenever possible all investigations and tests will be carried out at the same visit and most patients will only need one appointment i.e. (one stop clinic).
Why should I see a specialist?
It is important that all women who experience vaginal bleeding after the menopause are assessed to help establish the cause. For 9 out of 10 women there is a simple explanation that usually needs little or no treatment. In some cases your GP may refer you for assessment to exclude the small possibility of something more serious - such as abnormal or cancer cells.
Abnormal menstrual bleeding is a common complaint and there are now new treatments available, reducing the need for major surgery. Some of the newer treatments can be carried out without the need for general anaesthetic and usually on the same day.
How does the clinic work?
During your private consultation the consultant will discuss your symptoms with you and then carry out the appropriate assessment. We may carry out an ultrasound scan and
request blood tests. If clinically required, a biopsy may also be taken.
You may also need a hysteroscopy. This is a comprehensive internal examination which uses a camera to look into the womb. It is not painful, but can be uncomfortable. The aim of the clinic is to complete all the tests you need in one visit, although this may not always be possible.
What happens next?
We hope to be able to reassure and treat patients at this first visit, although a follow up appointment may be necessary. Your consultant will discuss whether there is any need to come back for another appointment.
