Background Information
Professional profile:
I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in diseases of the upper gastro-intestinal tract to the Wirral NHS Trust in 1998. However, I have extensive experience in all aspects of elective and emergency general surgery, having trained through the Registrar/Senior Registrar training system. My Senior Registrar appointment was spent at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, where I developed my interest in upper gastro-intestinal and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. I also spent a one year sabbatical fellowship as an Associate Professor in oesophago-gastric (stomach and oesophagus) and hepato-pancreato-biliary (liver, gall bladder/bile duct) surgery at the Queen Mary hospital, Hong Kong. Here I gained extensive experience in advanced surgical techniques in the treatment of diseases of the upper gut.

I hold fellowships for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, as well as a specialist fellowship in General Surgery. My thesis was on the application of lasers in diseases of the upper gut leading to masters degree in Surgery from the University of London.

As a Consultant Surgeon, I regularly perform complex major surgery for diseases of the upper gut in my NHS practice. I am a very experienced Laparoscopic surgeon performing on average 100-120 laparoscopic gall bladder operations per year. I have a developing practice in laparoscopic anti-reflux, laparoscopic groin and incisional hernia, as well as laparoscopic splenectomy surgery. I also have extensive experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (camera examinations) of the upper and lower gut.

I am currently running audit and research projects in gall stone and non-gall stone diseases of the gall bladder. I am regularly involved in regional undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and regularly attend national meetings relating to my specialty interests.
Personal profile:
I am a member at Prenton Golf Club which forms my main recreational activity outside work. I also run and cycle in an attempt to keep the ravages of middle age at bay.

I also enjoy travelling, reading and driving and until recently was the owner of a sports motor cycle.
