    Professional profile:
    I graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1984. My career in Cardiology started when I became Registrar at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in 1987. I then moved to King¿s College Hospital in London for further training. I spent 3 years as a Research Fellow in Edinburgh and obtained the degree of Doctorate in Medicine from Manchester University in 1993. My research work on mitral balloon valvuloplasty and transoesophageal echocardiography has been published in prestigious scientific journals. I was appointed Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1993. I spent a year (1997/1998) in Canada specialising in interventional Cardiology.

    I was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Wirral Hospitals NHS Trust in 2001. I have had sessions at Spire Murrayfield Hospital since then. Working as a team with other consultant colleagues, I have been able to introduce new developments for the care of patients with heart disease.

    Despite heavy clinical commitments, I continue to be active in research, presenting my work at international conferences regularly. The European Society of Cardiology in 2005 referred to my work on Troponin and endocarditis as ¿of outstanding quality¿.
    Personal profile:
    I grew up on the tropical island of Mauritius. There are four doctors in my family, all of whom graduated from Manchester Medical School.

    I enjoy football and cricket.

    I can speak several languages fluently.
