14th October 2010
September came and went in a flash with the falling leaves giving us a clear indication that winter is just around the corner! For Wirral Murrayfield that means the execution of the Christmas plans and preparing for next year!
Part of the Christmas preparation is the completion of the MRI scanner build which is due to open on the 18th October. We would like to extend a warm welcome, to Jeffery Horn, the recently appointed MRI Lead who joins us from Arrowe Park Hospital NHS. Jeffrey will oversee the training for the use of the MRI scanner and help support the Diagnostic and Imaging Manager to develop new MRI business from the surrounding healthcare economy to support the overwhelmed local NHS MRI service.
The SpaMedica ophthalmology contract continues to grow with excellent patient outcomes for cataract surgery reported through our patient survey and patient outcome measures.
We start a new ENT Diagnostic service for Peninsula Health on the 15th September which will be provided by an ENT Surgeon as an out patient service. This will be followed very quickly with a Dermatology Diagnostic Service again in partnership with Peninsula Health.
We are awaiting the results of the staff and consultant survey which have been on going for the last four weeks. The survey is managed by an external audit company. The surveys enable the staff and the consultant body to have the opportunity to express their views on how well the hospital and the senior management team have delivered against the Spire philosophy. The results are expected the first week of November.
The annual group patient survey is also due to close. This survey is again managed by an external audit body. The purpose of this survey is to help us reflect upon the service we provide and clarify if this is in deed the service our patients want keeping the focus on what our patients need in the local area.
Throughout the year we do an in house survey which is very much a temperature check done on every single in-patient discharged. This helps us to modify our services in response to patient suggestions or when at times we do not always get it right! These results will be published in November on the web site.
I am sure you are beginning to appreciate that it is not only the day to day clinical elements of managing a hospital clinical team which makes the role of Matron very exciting but the back ground work which helps us to improve our services to the benefit of our local patients. I am always available if you wish to give us some suggestions as we are interested in every idea which will help us develop and prosper as your hospital of choice for 2011!
