Balance clinics, or vestibular rehabilitation clinics for feelings of dizziness.

A wide range of symptoms can result from what is called vestibular imbalance. Patients may initially suffer with acute dizziness often and may also experience feellings of nausea and vomiting.

As this settles down, they are often left with feelings of imbalance which many describe as feeling that they are 'muzzy-headed'. Vestibular imbalance places extra demand on the visual-occular system, meaning that patients can struggle to concentrate when reading or using computers and often complain of fatigue and eye irritation.

The Physiotherapy department at Southend’s Spire Wellesley Hospital offers a comprehensive assessment of patients in order to diagnose conditions which cause such symptoms.

In particular we take referrals for patients suffering Labyrinthitis and Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Patients suffering from the latter, in many cases, are symptom-free after one assessment and treatment session, using such techniques as Semont and Epley (CRT) manoeuvres.

Patients under our care are always welcometo contact us with any worries or queries, they have about their condition and their treatment and in the case of Labyrinthitis are always given exercises to conduct when they are at home to help ease the symptoms.

If you would like to book a private assessment and treatment session with our specialist physiotherapist, please call 01702 447 904.
