Mr Gurpreet Bhermi is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex and Spire Wellesley hospital in Southend, Essex  offering private eye surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital.

Mr Gurpreet Bhermi offers a comprehensive service for all general ophthalmic conditions. In his private practice at Spire Hartswood and Spire Wellesley hospitals in Essex, he offers cataract surgery using multifocal lens implants so that patients will not be dependent on spectacles after cataract surgery. In addition, Mr Bhermi is able to offer the latest high definition lenses to private cataract surgery patients.  He also provides a complete glaucoma service which includes glaucoma monitoring, medical management, laser treatment and glaucoma surgery.

Gurpreet Bhermi’s philosophy is to provide up-to-date, expert and personalised eye care to his patients. He encourages patients to engage in shared ownership of their care. This keeps the patient informed, improves quality of care and provides feedback to continually improve the service.

I graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School and undertook my core ophthalmic training at several London teaching hospitals including Moorfields Eye Hospital, The Western Eye Hospital, and St. Thomas’ and Kings College Hospitals. This specialist training was  enhanced  with three additional Fellowships – a combined Basic Science and Clinical Research Fellowship investigating techniques to prevent complications of cataract surgery (St. Thomas’ Hospital), and Clinical Fellowships at Moorfields (Cataract Surgery) and The Western Eye Hospital (Glaucoma). I continue to maintain close and valuable links with colleagues in London.

I was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Southend University hospital in 2006 and support the department by providing a specialist Glaucoma service and also run a Comprehensive Ophthalmology clinic. My other roles include Clinical Governance and Audit Lead and I am also the Unit Training Director.

The limited time I have, I like to spend with my children and my wife who is also in the medical profession. I am a keen skier and play squash to keep fit - which I need to do to keep up with my two children.
