Professional profile:
Mr Praveen qualified in medicine in 1987 from Bangalore University, India, securing a Merit Scholarship and University Gold Medal. He then did his post-graduate surgical residency programme at the Post-Graduate Institute (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India leading to the MS degree in 1990. He later worked there as a surgical registrar for three years.

After coming to the UK, Mr Praveen obtained the Fellowship of all four Royal Colleges and then did his higher surgical training in London to obtain focussed training in colorectal surgery. During this period he trained at various NHS hospitals in the London area including the Royal Free Hospital, Royal London and Barts Hospital and Homerton Hospital and then in Essex at Southend, Chelmsford, and Colchester Hospitals. During this time Mr Praveen was awarded the Dean’s Best Teacher award (2002) by the Royal Free UCL Medical School.

In 2004 Mr Praveen was appointed as a Consultant Gastrointestinal & Laparoscopic Surgeon at Southend Hospital NHS Trust where his special areas of interest are colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, rectal bleeding and hernia repair. He also specialises in the investigation of bowel problems by endoscopy.
