Wrist replacement

A unique and advanced wrist replacement is now available for suitable patients at the Spire Wellesley Hospital, one of the few facilities in the South East to offer such advanced techniques and technology.

We now offer advanced wrist replacements using the latest implant technology

The Maestro Wrist Replacement™ offers patients a number of advantages over other types of replacements, predominantly the improving level of pain relief and the restored range of motion of the wrist after surgery.

The Maestro Total Wrist System™ can be used to replace wrists disabled by pain, deformity or limited motion as a result of:

  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease including osteoarthritis, traumatic arthritis and avascular necrosis.

KinematX™

The world's first such wrist hemi-arthroplasty was carried out at The Spire Wellesley Hospital in 2011 and attracted national media coverage in the Mail on Sunday. Portaryed as a breakthrough in the treatment of wrist injuries in younger patients, the procedure aims to retain the 'dart thrower's motion' and to retain much more of the wrist's natural movement as compared to more traditionla wrist fusion.
