The physiotherapy team at Spire Washington Hospital are now pleased to be able to offer Kinesio® taping as another treatment option for our patients.
Kinesio® tex tape was designed by Dr Kenzo Kase in 1979 to provide continuing treatment for his patients between their appointments. It has been used in Europe, the USA and Asia for a number of years. It is a therapeutic elastic tape which can be applied to affect many tissues and physiological systems within the body. It is hypoallergenic and waterproof and can be worn for extended periods of time between physiotherapy appointments to aid in the reduction of symptoms.
Here at Spire Washington Hospital we use Kinesio® Tex tape on a variety of patients to aid in their rehabilitation. We can treat acute injuries, post-operative conditions, scar tissue and it can also be used to aid in the drainage of excess fluid i.e. Lymphodeama, so is regularly used following surgery for breast cancer.
The tape is applied to the skin in a specific pattern to achieve the desired effect for each individual patient.
All patients would be assessed prior to any treatment being prescribed, and it is likely that kinesio taping may be prescribed in conjunction with other treatment options.
