What is Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery?

Sleeve Gastrectomy (also known as Gastric Sleeve surgery) involves removing up to 2/3 of the stomach, converting it into a long thin tube shape.

How does it work?

Because the stomach is smaller it means that it can’t hold as much food, and patients feel full more quickly, and stay feeling full for longer. Therefore, it is easier for patients to maintain a reduced calorie diet.

Does the surgery affect digestion?

No sleeve gastrectomy surgery, decreases the quantity of food that can be absorbed, with no alteration to the mechanisms of digestion.

Can the surgery be reversed?

No, sleeve gastrectomy surgery is irreversible.

Who is suitable for sleeve gastrectomy surgery?

This procedure is suitable for patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of over 40.
