I studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, achieving a first class B Med. Sci. (Hons) in 1984 and MB BS in 1987. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1991.

Adult ophthalmology: I currently undertake general ophthalmology clinics and operating lists in Durham and Sunderland, managing all common conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, ocular surface disorders and minor eyelid abnormalities.

Paediatric ophthalmology/strabismus: I am subspeciality fellowship trained in Vancouver, Canada. I hold paediatric and ocular motility clinics in Sunderland, Durham and South Shields, and have a dedicated paediatric operating list. I provide a secondary and tertiary referral service covering all paediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus problems for a local population of approximately 800,000, with additional referrals from adjacent areas.

My wife, Anne, works as a dentist in Langley Park. We live in Durham with our two children, Matthew and Daniel.

I play tennis (badly), golf (equally badly) and go to the cinema (when allowed).
