I am a general and vascular surgeon. I qualified in 1988 at Newcastle University.

My basic surgical training was in Newcastle and Leicester, followed by research at the University of Leicester. My higher surgical training was within the northern region and I was appointed as a consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital in October 2000.
Personal profile:
I am married to a G.P. and have 3 young sons (2 pre-school). Outside of work I try to spend most of my time with my family.

I am a keen rugby fan. My eldest son plays mini rugby and we both have season tickets for the Newcastle Falcons. My own sporting activities are limited to jogging to ensure that my younger brother doesn't beat me in the Great North Run, which we've done most years since 1985.
