Professional profile:
I am consultant vascular surgeon and clinical director of general surgery and urology at Sunderland Royal Hospital, where I am in my 13th year as a consultant. As well as being a senior lecturer at the University of Newcastle, I am also a visiting professor in sports science at the University of Loughborough with whom I have worked collaboratively for more than 20 years.

My clinical interests are vascular and endocrine surgery with a special interest in upper limb vascular disorders, venous disease and thoracic outlet syndrome. In addition I have a long standing interest in groin hernias and the so called 'sportsmans groin.'
Personal profile:
I am married with two teenage daughters. My wife is a solicitor. My recreational interests include ski-ing and holidaying in the French Alps.
