Mr Barnes was appointed as consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2001. His major interests are oculoplastic, lacrimal and cataract surgery.

He graduated from St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1988. He trained in general ophthalmology at 6 London Teaching Hospital Units including St Thomas', Moorfields Eye cumulating in an extended subspecialty training fellowship in oculoplastic surgery.

He operates regularly on cataracts, eyelid lumps and tumors including the reconstruction of Mohs micrographic surgery defects, abnormalities of eyelid position, patients with watery eyes and patients who need their eye removed.

Mr Barnes also carries out a range of cosmetic eyelid surgery which includes anti-wrinkle injection treatment and blepharoplasty.
