Mr Burns qualified in dentistry from Manchester and from medicine in London. He completed his basic surgical training in the North East of England. He has been a consultant maxillofacial surgoen at Sunderland Royal Hospital since July 2004. Mr Burns's main subspecialty interest is head and neck cancer and reconstruction. He is presently the lead clinician for head and neck cancer surgery at Sunderland Royal Hospital and he chairs the head and neck cancer group for the North of England Cancer Network.
Mr Burns's other specialty interests include dentoalveolar surgery, dental implant surgery, facial skin cancer and the management of benign conditions of the head and neck to include salivary gland surgery.
Mr Burns has had a life long passion for flying. He currently hold pilot's licenses for light aircraft and self launching motor gliders. He enjoys building and flying model aircraft with my children. Mr Burns and his wife are currently in the process of renovating an old farm house. They currently keep chickens, sheep and intend to eep pigs at some point in the future.
