Professional profile:
I was appointed as consultant psychiatrist at Cherry Knowle Hospital, Sunderland in October 1982. I started my post-graduate training in psychiatry in August 1975 at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Morningside, Edinburgh. I completed my training in 1978 and qualified at the membership examination of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

I was appointed as senior registrar in psychiatry at the University Hospital of South Manchester, Wittington Hospital, where I worked between 1978 and 1982.

I am approved under Section 12 (a) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
