Background Information
Professional profile:
My training and experience encompasses all aspects of general cardiology and I also offer sub-speciality expertise in chest pain, coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty and stenting) as well as heart failure and cardiomyopathies.

My grounding in cardiology was gained at the Freeman Hospital and Sunderland before I was awarded a British Heart Foundation research fellowship to the National Heart and Lung Institute in London. My research was in heart failure, cardiomyopathy and troponin and allowed me to work clinically with the recognised leaders in these fields.

I trained in coronary angioplasty with figures of international renown at the Royal Brompton Hospital and St George’s Hospital, London. My NHS appointment is at the Freeman Hospital, where I am Consultant in General and Interventional Cardiology.

My clinical practice covers all aspects of cardiac disease but with special interest in the diagnosis and therapy of coronary artery and cardiac muscle disease.
Personal profile:
I graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School and completed house officer posts at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. I won a place on the Newcastle medical senior house officer rotation and, during this time, I gained affection for the area and an appreciation of the high standard of medicine practised here.

Registrar posts in cardiology at the Freeman Hospital and Sunderland District General Hospital followed before I moved to London to further my coronary interventional training and pursue an interest in basic science research.

London was professionally and personally rewarding but I was delighted to gain appointment to the Freeman Hospital and return to the north. I live locally and have two young children.
