    After qualifying from Bristol University in 1972, Senior registrar rheumatology training was undertaken in Manchester. Dr Holland was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist to Sunderland Royal Hospital in 1983 and as lead clinician developed a multi professional team for the diagnosis and management of rheumatic diseases.

    With 24 years consultant experience Dr Holland's interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases from soft tissue rheumatism, widespread chronic pain to acute and chronic degenerative and inflammatory arthritis.

    He has extensive experience in the use of anti rheumatic drugs, soft tissue and joint injections and a special interest in patient education.
