    Professional profile:
    I have worked in anaesthetics since 1998 undergoing a fully structured training in the UK. I currently hold a substantive consultant post at Sunderland Royal Hospital, devoting equal time to general anaesthetics and chronic pain management.

    I have a balanced approach towards chronic pain conditions with regards to the use of medication, interventional procedures, supplementary therapy and multidisciplinary involvement.

    As a pain specialist, I frequently undertake the following procedures in chronic pain: Peripheral nerve blocks followed by pulsed radiofrequency to the affected nerves; lumbar and cervical facet joint injections; radiofrequency thermal ablation of medial nerve branch to produce facet joint denervation; epidural steroid injections; stellate ganglion blocks; lumbar sympathectomy.

    I spent a year in 2002 - 2003 researching into cellular receptors that may have a role in explaining some chronic pain conditions. The outcome was well appreciated by the Anaesthetic Research Committee.

    My main interests outside work is indulging in DIY projects. I also like 'Information Technology' and enjoy keeping myself up to date.
