Sports injury treatment

At Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital we offer a highly specialised service to individuals at all levels of recreational and professional sport. We treat athletes of all abilities and ages and are experienced in treating injuries for a variety of disciplines such as athletics, football, rugby, squash and tennis.

Muscle and joint conditions and back pain

The Chartered Physiotherapists at Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital are highly experienced in treating all muscle, tendon ligament and joint conditions. This includes recovery following fractures, a recent injury or a long-term problem. They also have the skills to decide whether a further investigation is required. Each Physiotherapist is an expert in upper limb, lower limb and spinal management. Postural assessment and advice will be given.

Post operative physiotherapy

Working closely alongside surgeons based at Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital, the physiotherapy team follows each Consultant's rehabilitation guidelines to facilitate your individual recovery. Using a wealth of experience they will guide you through the time following surgery with specific treatments and exercise progression.

Respiratory management

Our highly specialist respiratory physiotherapist works closely with a Consultant physician to optimise management of patients with both acute and long term respiratory conditions. Strategies for improving daily life and future health will be discussed.

Neurology, elderly rehabilitation and dizziness management

Experienced specialist physiotherapists are able to tailor treatment programmes for specific problems; aiming to optimise self management and maximise function. 

Antenatal and postnatal related musculoskeletal pain

Understanding your concerns and physical limitations at such an important stage in your life our specialist physiotherapists will support and guide you through the musculo-skeletal problems that can occur during pregnancy and following child birth.

The earlier you request an assessment of an injury and receive appropriate treatment, the faster we will be able to help you resume your normal activities.

Making an appointment

Patients may contact the physiotherapy team directly, or be referred by their consultant or GP.  If you are claiming on your insurance, a GP’s signature may be required on your claim form.

Information about paying for your physiotherapy

Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital is open to all, not just those with private medical insurance. If you are not insured, please contact our physiotherapy department on 01892 741 141 and we will be happy to advise you of the cost of treatment. We can accept payment by debit or credit card, cheque or cash.

Paying with your medical insurance
We work with all major insurance providers and those wishing to claim should confirm that their treatment and the number of session is pre-authorised. Most schemes now include physiotherapy as part of an out-patient allowance.

Before your physiotherapy appointment, please contact your private medical insurance company to check that your cover is adequate and to establish to following important policy details such as insurance company number, membership number, level of cover, policy restrictions and any confirmation of eligibility provided by your insurance company, such as pre-authorisation or claim number.

If your treatment if not covered by private medical insurance, Spire Tunbridge Well Hospital will invoice you separately for any fees.

We ask that you provide us with your credit/debit card details on arrival at the hospital. You may find that you have an excess or require treatment or investigation that is not fully covered by your insurance policy. We will take care of the outstanding payment at a later date. Before your card is charged, you will be informed of any balance owed to the hospital.

Self pay patients
An invoice will be sent to you at the end of every 14 days. One week’s notice will be given to settle your bill. If payment has not been received in full, the amount will be taken from your credit card. These details are held on our secure database.

Cancellation fee
Patients must give a minimum of 24 hours notice for any cancelled appointment or there will be a charge of £21.80.

The physiotherapy process

At your first appointment a detailed history will be taken, followed by a thorough assessment of your condition. Please allow up to one hour for your first appointment

It may be useful to bring a pair of shorts or vest top as the physiotherapist will need to see the areas that relate to your condition

You will receive expert advice and treatment and we will provide you with a personal recovery programme tailored to your needs

Follow up appointments last up to 30 minutes which includes note writing time for the physiotherapist

With your permission our physiotherapists will liaise with your GP and provide a detailed discharge summary at the end of your treatment

Our physiotherapists can also refer you to a consultant who can arrange diagnostic tests if necessary including X-ray, CT and MRI scanning
