Background Information
Professional profile:
Ken Nischal qualified from King's College Hospital , London in 1988. His training took him from London, Windsor, the Midlands and then Oxford. In 1988 he completed a one year super-specialist training at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, having been awarded the prestigious Keeler Scholarship by the Royal college of Ophthalmologists.
While still in Toronto he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, London, which he took up in January 1999.
Currently, he is Head of the Clinical and Academic Department of Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
In 2007 he was made visitng Professor at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India.
Clinically, he has continued a general ophthalmology service split evenly between adults and children at the Spire Thames Valley Hospital.
He has a special interest in cataract surgery and strabisums (squint)surgery. He has a clinical interest in ocular surface disease, including blepharitis and dry eye syndromes.

He works by two guiding principals;
- that the benefits of any intervention, surgical or medical, should outweigh the potential risks.

- that the decision process regarding treatment must be a discussion between himself and the patient and sometimes a close relative (or Parent in the case of a child)

Personal profile:
Ken Nischal enjoys travelling with his family and for work purposes with ORBIS (an international eye charity). Travelling has allowed him to pursue his childhood hobby of black and white photography with open doorways and windows the subject of much attention. Music is a large part of my family life with a family band sprouting in the garage. His involvement is strictly auditory!
