As a child I grew up in a surgical family – with a grandfather and father who were both surgeons.  Biology and engineering fascinated me and I constantly took things apart to see how they worked!  It was no surprise to my parents when I decided to follow a career in Medicine and after schooling in Suffolk gained a place at Guys Hospital in London where I completed my basic Medical and Surgical training.  During that time I had come across a new Plastic Surgeon in the hospital and spent my free moments watching and learning the art and craft of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.  My passion for the specialty increased with every new operation that I saw, and every patient’s life that was improved.  

To be certain that I was not missing another field however, I left Guys for a surgical rotation at St Mary Hospital Paddington and Great Ormond street Hospital.  These jobs in General and paediatric surgery, orthopaedics and vascular surgery equipped me with surgical experience and skills that have stayed with me.  In 2002 I successfully sat the Specialist Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery exam of the college of surgeons (FRCS(plast)) and was admitted to the specialist register of the General Medical Council as a Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeon ( No.3557079).   I was delighted to be appointed to a consultant post in the NHS at the world renowned Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, specialising in surgery of the skin, head and neck, breast, trunk and perineum.  

 In 2006 I decided the time had come to be my own boss and treat patients in a more personal and holistic fashion – I left my full time post at the Queen Victoria Hospital and set up my own practice based at the McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead.  More recently I have been selected as a surgeon of choice for TV programs such as Extreme Makeover UK, Embarrassing bodies, and Discovery channel, and helped to launch an internet based information channel for Plastic Surgery called Avia-tv.com

I continue to be passionate about achieving safe and reliable results of surgery in all my patients in an honest, informed and comfortable environment.  I like to separate hype from fact when assessing and offering new treatments to my patients.  I have a busy and successful practice based upon reputation and quality of care.  I am regularly the surgeon of choice for doctors and their families as well as nursing staff who have seen my patients and their results.  I am proud that I have achieved that level of confidence in my peers.  My patients range from titled ladies to the lady next door and I treat everyone with the same kindness, respect, care and understanding.
