What is it?
The Durolane injection is used to relieve pain of knee and hip osteoarthritis. Durolane is a transparent gel that is injected into joints affected by osteoarthritis to relieve pain, restore lubrication and cushioning which improves joint function and helps to restore quality of life.
How does it work?
Durolane is created using NASHA – an advanced patented process of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring molecule that provides lubrication and cushioning in a normal joint. Durolane contains high levels of Hyaluronic Acid which mimic the effects of concentrated Hyaluronic Acid; it restores the levels Hyaluronic Acid which are diminished during the progression of Osteoarthritis.
Is it suitable for me?
If you suffer from Osteoarthritis pain in the knee or hip and it is not controlled by simple pain killers and lifestyle modification then you could be suitable for the Durolane injection.
How is this treatment performed?
The procedure is performed in the consultant’s room and takes approximately 10-15 minutes, Durolane injection is administrated by a single injection into the joint.
Is it painful?
The consultant will administer a local skin anaesthetic prior to giving the Durolane injection to minimise any discomfort.
How effective is the treatment?
Intra-articular Hyaluronic Acid offers comparable pain relief to pain-relieving drug therapy or injection of corticosteroids, with a longer duration of action. As and when required, treatment can be repeated.
