What is breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement surgery - commonly known as a breast implant or ‘boob job’ - involves surgically inserting breast implants underneath the natural tissue to make the breasts permanently larger, firmer and fuller. Spire Cosmetic Surgery has some of the UK's most experienced breast surgeons and we offer breast enlargment surgery at all 37 of our modern private hospitals across the country.

Benefits of breast enlargement surgery

Many women choose to surgically enhance their breasts with a ‘boob job’; in fact it is the most popular cosmetic procedure for women in the UK.

If you have always longed for bigger or more shapely breasts, or if you are unhappy with the way that they have changed after pregnancy or weight loss, then breast enlargement surgery may be an option for you. Psychological benefits which women can report after the operation include:

  • Greater self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Feeling more feminine
  • Being able to wear the clothes you want
  • Feeling that the breasts are more proportionate to the rest of the body

Spire Cosmetic Surgery’s experienced breast surgeons make you feel at ease

Spire's experienced cosmetic surgeons will guide you through every step of the way. We want you to feel in control and ultimately make the decision that is right for you. Throughout the process you will discuss the look and feel that you want to achieve and the results you can realistically expect from the operation, as well as the associated risks and alternatives to breast enlargement surgery.

With Spire Cosmetic Surgery you can see the consultant-grade surgeon of your choice at a time that suits you. You will be treated in a premium Spire private hospital - not a clinic - so you can rest assured of our commitment to the highest healthcare standards and cleanliness. Before breast enlargement surgery

During the consultation phase, you will discuss with your surgeon the size and shape you would like your breasts to become. A variety of breast implants are available to choose from with two types of filler and your surgeon will be able to advise you on the options:

  • Silicone implants. These have a firm feel which some consider to be the most realistic to the touch.
  • Saline implants. Saline implants can be deflated when they are inserted, meaning the incision size can be smaller and less conspicuous.

You will be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type of breast implant before deciding which is best for your breast enlargement. Spire Healthcare only ever use the highest quality implants from reputable suppliers.

What does breast enlargement surgery involve?

Usually, a hospital stay of one or two days is required with breast enlargement or boob job. A general anaesthetic is administered which means you will be asleep for the duration of the procedure. This lasts around one to two hours.

During the surgery, the surgeon will make a small incision either near the armpit, under the breasts, down the side of the breast, or around the areola (dark area of the nipple), in line with what you have discussed beforehand.

The surgeon will then insert the implant underneath your natural breast tissue or under the muscle of the breast. The incision is then closed with stitches. Surgeons attempt to minimise scarring, and this will usually be hidden away from sight – under the crease of the breast for example.

After breast enlargement surgery

For several weeks after the surgery you will be required to wear a special supportive bra to help the breasts ‘settle down’ and help you feel more comfortable. You will need to plan some time off work so that you can recover at home.

How much does a breast enlargement cost?
