Mr Gurpreet Singh Ranger specialises in general and colorectal surgery and minimally invasive surgery. His particular areas of expertise are in surgery for rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, functional and pelvic disorders and general surgery.
Mr Singh Ranger qualified in the United Kingdom from Guys and St. Thomas's Hospitals in 1997. He underwent surgical training in North East Thames, the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada; where he was a clinical trainee in intensive care before returning to the United Kingdom to work at St. George's Hospital and Medical School. He then spent a period of higher research in London obtaining both Master of Surgery and Master of Science degrees.
Mr Ranger underwent specialist training in the London Deanery and obtained the FRCS (Eng) in 2007. He was a senior trainee in colorectal surgery at Barts and the Royal London Hospitals, and St George's Hospital and Medical School, London. Here he trained in advanced techniques in surgery for colorectal cancer and recurrent cancer and also in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders.
He was appointed as a consultant in colorectal and general surgery at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent in 2011.
Other areas of interest include abdominal wall hernia surgery, pilonidal disease surgery, the transanal dearterialisation procedure for haemorrhoids (HALO or THD procedure) and tibial nerve stimulation for continence disorders.
Mr Singh Ranger has extensive training and research interest and has fostered important links with other faculties and departments. He has published over 35 scientific peer-reviewed papers and continues to publish and present his work regularly, He is an editorial board advisor and peer reviewer for a number of international journals.
