Mr Harinath graduated in India in 1990 and subsequently underwent post graduate training in a prestigious institutue the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. He came to the UK in 1995 and did his basic surgical training in South Wales mainly in the University Hospital Wales and Llandough Hospital NHS trust.
In 1997 Mr Gandra Harinath became a fellow of the Irish College of Surgeons with his higher surgical training being done through the welsh deanery in South and West wales. His training was in various specialities but his main speciality is in Colorectal Surgery, the specialist colorectal training he carried out took place In Singleton Hospital, Swansea and in University Hospital of Wales.
Mr Harinath carried out research for a high degree on rectal cancers with the title of the project being The Role of Immunohistochemistry in the Detection of Micrometastases at the Circumferential Resection Margins of Rectal cancers. Following this research project he was awarded an M Phil degree by the University of Glamorgan.
His specialist laparoscopic colorectal training was at University Hospital Wales and Mr Harinath completed the intercollegiate examination in 2006 and went on to join East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Harinath is a Trust wide Colorectal Service development lead and audit lead for Diseases of orientation group for Colorectal Cancer.
Mr Harinath also has specialist interests in paediatric Surgery, which is mainly district general level Paediatric surgery, further interests include endoscopy, general laporoscopic surgery along with enhanced recovery.
After consultant appointment to the East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, he has been delivering a very high quality surgical service and has improved laparoscopic colorectal operations through training at Portsmouth and Oxford.
