Mr Ajai K Tyagi is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, since his appointment in 2001. Mr Tyagi obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1994. He completed his registrar training in general Ophthalmology at The Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, Birmingham. He underwent sub-specialist training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. He also undertook an observership at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore to study new surgical techniques.
Mr Tyagi also trains surgeons from across the globe in vitreoretinal surgery. He has presented at various international conferences and has published research papers in prestigious medical journals.
He was one of the early surgeons in the UK to perform complex surgeries such as macular translocations. Mr Tyagi specialises in the following conditions, modern cataract surgery, vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, ocular trauma, intravitreal lucentis and avastin injections for macular degeneration, vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, retinal laser treatment and general ophthalmology.
