I was appointed as consultant ophthalmic surgeon at H M Stanley Hospital in 2009. My major interests and areas of expertise are cataract surgery, surgical and medical mangement of glaucoma.
I received my general medical training at Madras Medical College and DR.MGR Medical University in Chennai, India. I did my specialist ophthalmology training initially at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India followed by Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. I completed a fellowship in glaucoma management at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Warrington General Hospital where I learned non penetrating glaucoma surgery (Viscocanalostomy).
At H M Stanley Hospital, I provide a general ophthalmic service and cataract surgical service to the local community as well as a specialist adult referral glaucoma service for the North Wales region for more complicated and serious glaucoma. This includes full diagnostic service and medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma.
Areas of expertise
Glaucoma: Primary open angle glaucoma, primary angle closure glaucoma (including acute glaucoma), secondary glaucoma. Medical management of ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Surgical management of glaucoma: enhanced trabeculectomy (using 5-Fluorouracil, motomycin C), bleb needling and refashioning, drainage tubes (Molteno and Baerveldt) and Viscocanalostomy specialist laser services include cyclodiode laser treatment, selective laser trabeculoplasty, iridotomy and iridoplasty for glaucoma. Also complex cataract surgery for the glaucoma patient.
I am responsible for initiating the development of the glaucoma service at the hospital, and I am member of the team involved in process of setting up a referral refinement protocol for optometrists and the shared care glaucoma assessment clinic within the hospital.
