Meet our specialist consultant surgeon
Mr Rowland Rees
Mr Rees trained at the Royal London Hospital and then underwent general surgical training at St George's and the Royal Marsden Hospitals. It was at this time that he developed an interest in urology, and went to on to a period of research at UCLH (University College London Hospitals) followed by a six year urology training programme in the Wessex region.
He subsequently undertook a fellowship in surgical andrology, including fertility and micro-surgery, and is one of small number of surgeons fully trained in this sub-speciality in the UK.
He works closely with the Complete Fertility and Wessex Fertility Centres at Southampton where he carries out a high volume of reconstructive and sperm retrieval procedures. All vasectomy reversals are carried out with the aid of the operating microscope (microsurgical vasectomy reversal), giving excellent results on a par with the world literature. This allows epididymo-vasostomy where required.*
Mr Rees's other areas of expertise include urethral strictures, Peyronie's disease, sexual dysfunction, male incontinence (male slings and artificial urinary sphincters), as well as general and diagnostic urology.
Mr Rees has been working at Spire Southampton since 2012 and is part of South Coast Urology, a group of consultants all specialising in specific aspects of urology.
Mr Rees is a trained micro-surgeon and is fully trained and experienced in vasectomy reversal surgical techniques, treating patients from Hampshire, Dorset and beyond.
* This is where the vas can be connected directly to the tubes draining the testicle (epididymis), thus by-passing any blockage in the lower part of the vas.
