Spire Southampton Hospital in Hampshire provides a prostate assessment clinic for men who are experiencing difficulties with their bladder.
Our prostate clinic allows rapid access to a comprehensive assessment of your bladder/prostate symptons. At the clinic you will be required to have:
- a physical examination of your prostate
- your urine flow rate measured
- an ultrasound of your bladder which measures the emptying of your bladder.
In addition to this, before attending the clinic you will be required to have baseline blood tests of kidney function and the prostate (a PSA test), these should be carried out by your GP.
From the results of this assessment we will be able to advise you on the possibility of prostate cancer and whether you require a prostate biopsy. This can all be carried out at the same clinic visit if required, or arranged at a subsequent clinic visit if more information is needed, for example a repeat PSA test.
What tests should you have done prior to your appointment?
Before attending your appointment at our prostate clinic you should have had the following tests:
- Full Blood Count (FBC)
- Kidney function test (creatine & electrolytes)
- Urine specimen for urine infection (MSU)
You should arrive for your appointment with a full bladder.
