Professional profile:
Philip Chapman-Sheath is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialised practice for patients with complex knee problems. Trained in basic surgery in London, Philip obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1994. He then specialised in orthopaedic surgery for the next six years as a registrar on the Oxford training scheme. He has completed a clinical and research fellowship in soft tissue knee surgery and primary and revision knee and hip arthroplasty at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and has also spent time as a travelling fellow in complex knee reconstructive surgery at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2003 and is currently a Consultant Knee Surgeon at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Philip is trained in all aspects of knee surgery, including sports injuries, ligament reconstruction, knee arthroscopy, primary and revision knee replacements and knee trauma and fracture fixation.

He has research interests in bone biology and fracture healing, the development of bone graft substitutes and knee replacement design and development. He has written scientific papers and lectures both nationally and internationally, presenting work on numerous aspects of these subjects. He has published book chapters on the diagnosis, management and outcome of orthopaedic trauma patients and on bone biology.
