Background Information 
Professional profile:
I qualified from Aberdeen University in 1990 and did my clinical training in Aberdeen, Nottingham & Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, USA. I was appointed as Senior Lecturer/Consultant Opthalmogist in 2005 at Southampton University and Southampton General Hospital, where I do a combination of out-patient clinics, in patient care, surgery, research & teaching.

In 1995, I was awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship to investigate the mechanisms of ocular inflammation and this research work formed the basis of my PhD. I have applied the findings from my research in immunology to develop my clinical interests. I run a research programme at Southampton University where I lead a team to investigate the mechanism of corneal inflammation, trying to find new therapies to treat corneal blindness.

This research work compliments my work as a consultant opthamologist where my main interest is in treating all types of Cornea & External Disease, which may involve complex surgery in the form of corneal transplantation. I also perform routine and complex cataract surgery. My patient referral base is very large with patients coming from the Channel Islands, Isle of Wight, Surrey, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Sussex as well as Hampshire.

My special clinical interests are patients with anterior segment ocular inflammation & patients who need complex anterior segment surgery.
