Background Information
Professional profile:
I have a special interest in pancreatic and biliary disease, with a tertiary referral practice covering difficult problems in these areas. Close collaboration with collegues in medical gastroenterology and radiology is routine for the assessment and management of patients with gallstones, chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

Patients may be treated by endoscopic, percutaneous, laparoscopic or traditional surgical techniques as appropriate. We have protocols for the management of common problems, designed to maintain the highest possible standards of care. Complex problems are managed by individual planning based on the circumstances of each case.
Personal profile:
Working in the NHS and the University allows me the twin satisfactions of treating patients, and conducting research to establish the causes of disease. I enjoy the challenges of this combined role, and strive to make a contribution to scientific advances in national associations. I was European editor of the British Journal of Surgery (until 1999). For relaxation I enjoy the theatre (as an actor, and as a theatre-goer), playing cricket and wine-tasting.

I have been an active member of the Burley Twinning Association, and Lyndhurst Twinners and I visit France regularly. I am a member of Burley Players and Lyndhurst Drama and Musical Society, roles include Oberon in Midsummer Night's Dream and Merlin in a pantomime version of King Arthur.

I have enjoyed cricket for many years and was Captain of Brockenhurst Second XI 2002-2004, and was given the award Clubman of the Year in 2003.
