Mr Barlow is a UK fellowship trained Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is part of a team of five Consultant Cardiac surgeons at Southampton General Hospital where he performs all aspects of adult Cardiac Surgery, with the exception of transplantation, as there is no regional transplant unit here.

Mr Barlow has a particular interest in left ventricular restoration surgery for heart failure and he currently undertakes more than 300 cardiac operations per year. The majority of procedures involve coronary bypass grafting but he also performs aortic and mitral valve replacements, mitral valve repairs, redo-procedures and surgery for atrial fibrillation.

Privately he operates exclusively at Spire Hospital Southampton and the operative results of the Cardiac Surgical Associates can be found on the Spire website.

Mr Barlow completed Medical School and General Surgical training at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. After undertaking research into aspects of cardiorespiratory function in heart failure he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree (DPhil) by the Univerity of Oxford in 1994. He completed my training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge before taking up the position of Heart and Lung Transplant Fellow at Stanford University, California in 1997. Mr Clifford Barlow was appointed to his current Consultant position in Southampton at the start of 2000 on his return to the UK. He is married with three children and, now that his rugby playing days are over, he enjoys golf, fly fishing and shooting in his spare time.
