Professor Timothy Iveson

I trained in Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital and have been a Consultant Medical Oncologist since 1995, initially working in both Southampton and Salisbury. I now work solely in Southampton where I am also the Lead Cancer Clinician. I became Professor of Gastro-intestinal Oncology in 2019.

I am a NHS Consultant working at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust where I am also the Lead Cancer Clinician. I specialise in the chemotherapy treatment of gastro-intestinal cancers (oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, biliary tract and bowel cancer).

I actively participate in clinical trials trying to improve the treatment for these cancers. I am invited to speak regularly at international meetings and have published widely on the treatment of gastro-intestinal cancers.

I was the chief investigator of the SCOT study which investigated the duration of adjuvant chemotherapy treatment. SCOT and the IDEA collaboration have resulted in a global change in the duration of chemotherapy after surgery for many patients with bowel cancer.

I have previously been a member of the NCRI (National Cancer Research Institute) Colorectal Cancer Adjuvant and Advanced Disease Sub-group.

I believe that patients should be well informed about their cancer and its treatment and therefore should have access to high quality patient information. For many years I have worked with Macmillan and since 2012 have been their Chief Medical Editor overseeing the information in their booklets and on their website.

I am a member of Medical Advisory Committee for Spire Southampton Hospital.
