I am a fully trained general cardiologist with a sub-specialty interest in angioplasty and stenting (interventional cardiology). I am particularly interested in the use of adjunctive therapies such as pressure wire, intravascular ultrasound and rotablation to guide optimal stent implantation. I have a longstanding interest in research, from my PhD in antibody engineering with Sir Greg Winter FRS at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, through to ongoing participation in multi-centre randomised clinical trials in the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre in Southampton. I have published numerous articles on outcomes with drug-eluting stents in humans in peer-reviewed medical journals and also presented my work at national and international meetings. My NHS practice is based at Southampton General Hospital where I am one of five Consultants delivering a 24/7 angioplasty service for heart attack patients. Privately, I offer interventional procedures at both Spire Southampton Hospital.

I qualified from St John’s College, Cambridge in 1997 with a distinction in Medicine and a first class honours degree in Pathology. I subsequently trained in General (Internal) Medicine and Cardiology in Edinburgh, London and Milan, where I was privileged to spend a one year long fellowship with the internationally renowned pioneer and practitioner of coronary stenting, Dr Antonio Colombo. Prior to my appointment as a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Coronary Intervention at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust in June 2008, I was a Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. Outside of medicine, I am a keen musician and met my violinist wife while playing the flute in the Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra. However, both our musical standards have subsequently slipped with increasing parental responsibilities incurred in the raising of our 2 sons.
