Professor of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Consultant Physician
Prof Arshad is a Professor and Consultant in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He leads the provision of NHS allergy services to the South Coast of England with clinics in Southampton, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. This is a regional tertiary service, which attracts referrals from the whole of Wessex region and beyond and is nationally recognised as one of only 3 in the UK providing a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facility for patients with a variety of allergic conditions. These include asthma, rhinitis (hay fever), eczema (dermatitis), urticaria (hives) and angioedema, and allergy to foods, drugs and insects. We provide both injection and oral desensitisation for allergies.
He is also the Director of the Asthma and Allergy Research Centre in the Isle of Wight. He is recognised internationally as an expert on the development and prevention of asthma and allergy. He has participated in revising European guidelines for primary prevention of allergy and was recently invited to join the international expert panel of food allergists by the National Institute of Health, Washington, USA. Prof Arshad has also authored/edited several books and book chapters and published around 100 articles in scientific journals.
Prof. Arshad is married with 2 children. Since his research fellowship in early nineties with the University of Southampton, he has made South Coast of England his adopted home, returning to this area, having left to work as far away as USA and Pakistan for short periods. He is passionate about his work but his other interests include reading and gardening.
