Professional profile:
Dr Huw Griffiths' training in cardiology took place in London at St Mary's Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital and the Royal Brompton.This afforded him unique opportunities to work in the Peart-Rose hypertension clinic at St Mary's, the Jane Somerville grown-up congenital heart disease unit and the Derek Gibson echo unit, each at the Brompton. As a consequence, he has wide experience in the management of all aspects of cardiology including angina, hypertension, heart failure , assessment of murmurs, arrhythmias, pacemakers and syncope.

In 1998, the British Heart Foundation awarded Dr Griffiths a major research grant to work in the heart failure research unit of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College. This led to a number of research publications and an MD degree in 2002.

It was at the Brompton that he developed his interest in angioplasty. He trained under Professor Ulrich Sigwart who developed coronary stents. As an interventional fellow at the Brompton, he performed research into the emerging technology of drug eluting stents. He was awarded a certificate of completion of specialist training in 2002.

Dr Griffiths treats patients with every kind of heart and cardiovascular disease and patients with angina who require angioplasty.
Personal profile:
Dr Griffiths is married with two young daughters and they enjoy walking together as a family. His main sporting interests are dinghy and yacht sailing and surfing. He played in the second row for West Glamorgan and St Thomas' Hospital but now prefers to spectate!
