Early lung cancer detection

Specialty Training recieved from South East Thames Higher Specialist Training Programme in Respiratory and General Medicine. This involved training at Guy's & St. Thomas' and King's College Hospital, London. The main training was in Respiratory and General Medicine in a busy and varied inner city environment but included a year in Specialist Cardiology. I developed my clinical interests in Lung cancer, COPD, asthma and TB during this period and experience of high-dependency care and non-invasive ventilation.

My research interest is in the early detection of lung cancer, and in particular the relationship between smoking-induced changes in the lung and later cancer. I am writing my PhD thesis on work done jointly at University College London and the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology, Cambridge. The subject is the mechanisms by which early abnormalities of the airways develop into cancers in susceptible smokers at the genetic and biological level.The research is a long-term ongoing project.

I have a keen interest in teaching at all levels from allied health professionals, through students to postgraduates.

I endeavour to use a logical, thorough, professional and compassionate approach to the diagnosis and treatment of patients. I have experience in respiratory, renal medicine and cardiology and can therefore take an all-round overview of a number of different medical problems.

My personal interests include the theatre, the history of medicine, cricket and time with my two boys.
