New pain therapy for tendon and joint pain at Spire Southampton Hospital

At Spire Southampton Hospital, Hampshire we know that suffering from aches and pains can take away the enjoyment of life. That’s why we’ve introduced a fast new treatment, called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) for sufferers of shoulder pain, painful heel (Plantar fasciitis) or pain in the Achilles tendon. ESWT is carried out at an outpatient’s appointment and requires no injections, medication or surgery.

Pain therapy with no injections,
medication or surgery

Using high-energy shockwaves to stimulate the self healing process, ESWT delivers shockwaves to the tissue via the surface of the skin. The treatment takes about 30 minutes per session and most patients find considerable relief from shoulder pain, painful heel or Achilles tendon in just eight to ten days following the first application.

Just one to three sessions at short intervals are required, your consultant will advise you how many sessions you require.
