Mr Bowyer understands the demands of sports and fitness, and the frustration that foot and ankle problems can bring, whether for the professional athlete or sportsman, or for those who want to stay fit and active, participating in occasional sport.
Mr Bowyer has treated foot and ankle problems for many professional and high-level sportsmen and women, from a range of sports including Olympic medal-winners and international performers in:
- Athletics
- Gymnastics
- Football
- Cricket
- Hockey
- Fencing
- Sailing
- Dance
He has also looked after many people who have lower, but none-the-less important, sporting demands – from weekend kick-around football in the park with the children, through to running to keep fit or weekly 5-a-side with friends from work.
All need and deserve a treatment regime which aims to optimise the outcome and ensures a return to activity as soon as possible. Co-operation between the surgeon, physiotherapist, podiatrist and sports coach or trainer is essential. This co-operative approach, and appropriate involvement and information for the patient, has always been key in Mr Bowyer’s approach to the management of foot and ankle problems.
