New Zealand Visa Medical Service

Spire Shawfair Park Hospital offers a one-stop service for New Zealand visa medicals. We are approved by Immigration New Zealand to provide visa medical and radiological (X-ray) examinations for people planning to visit or live in New Zealand.  All of the required components of the examination, including panel doctor consultation, blood tests and X-ray, can be carried out at our brand new facility, Spire Shawfair Park Hospital in Edinburgh.

At Shawfair Park Hospital, we try to provide appointments to suit your needs. If you're in a hurry, we often have appointments available at short notice or if there's no urgency, you can schedule your appointment well in advance. Contact our Visa Administrator on 0131 654 5602 for availability.

Spire Shawfair Park Hospital is conveniently situated a five minute walk from the Sheriffhall Park and Ride bus and car park terminus, from which Lothian buses travel frequently to Edinburgh City Centre and beyond. Our private car park also offers ample free on-site parking.

How do I make an appointment for an New Zealand visa health examination?

Appointments with our panel doctors for medical examinations and X-rays can be made by telephoning Spire Shawfair Park Hospital in Edinburgh on 0131 654 5602.

When calling, please have the following details ready:

1. Name, date of birth, address and contact number for each of the attendees
2. GP Details for each of the attendees

What to bring to the examination:

1. Form 1007, with sections A, H, I and J completed.
2. Your passport for identification.  Without this we will be unable to proceed with your examination.
3. Three recent passport photographs.
4. Any prescription glasses or contact lenses that you wear
5. Old chest X-rays, and any existing medical specialist reports, particularly if you have a known medical condition.
6. Details of any prescription medicines you are currently taking (including drug name and dosage).

Important notes regarding your appointment - please read

• We advise that you thoroughly check the medical requirements of your visa application. We are unable to act in an advisory capacity.
• As part of the health examination blood tests will be carried out for individuals aged 15 and over.  Unless you are diabetic, you should fast by not eating for 8 hours prior to your blood test.
• A urine sample may also be required, so you should drink plenty of water in advance of your appointment.
• If female, do not schedule your examination during menstruation.
• Additional blood or urine tests may be required, depending on your intended activities in New Zealand or if abnormal findings are detected during the examination. These tests will incur an extra fee.
• A cancellation fee of £75 will apply if an appointment is cancelled within 3 working days. If you cancel your appointment on the day or you fail to attend, you will incur the full cost of the medical.
