Mr Mehdi works in the NHS as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.
Although his practice at Borders General covers a broad range of orthopaedic problems, including lower limb arthroplasty, Mr Mehdi's areas of interest are foot and ankle surgery and knee replacement with computer navigation. He also provides multidisciplinary solutions for foot and ankle problems.
At Spire Shawfair Park Hospital, he provides input from a specialist Podiatrist if necessary.
Mr Mehdi trained as a Specialist Registrar in Orthopaedics in the West of Scotland Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training Programme, based in and around Glasgow, before taking up his Consultant appointment. Mr Mehdi's final year of training helped him to focus on developing an interest in foot and ankle surgery. Following this, he visited Amsterdam (Prof. Niek Van Dyk) to expand his knowledge in foot and ankle surgery, particularly ankle arthroscopy.
Mr Mehdi was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association European Travelling Fellowship for 2009, which involved visits to Heidelberg (Dr Wolfram Wenz) and Basel (Prof. Beat Hintermann) to meet experts in foot ankle surgery.
