Many musculoskeletal complaints represent mechanical dysfunctions and are best managed by techniques such as manipulation, injections, acupuncture, guided imagery, drug therapy, etc., whereas surgery is the main focus of orthopaedic surgeons, and systemic disorders the primary focus of rheumatologists. I have provided an nhs musculoskeletal medicine service in Lothian based at RIE, St Johns and Roodlands for many years until my semi-retirement in mid-2011. I now only work in the private sector based at Shawfair Park and my own consulting rooms. I have a Masters degree in Pain Management and offer a diagnostic service with a range of non-surgical treatment options where applicable.
